Job description

Missions

In collaboration with the other members of the team, the mission of the Conflict Mediator will be to identify tensions, prevent and manage conflicts between the inhabitants and in general contribute to the maintenance of a safe and benevolent climate within the sites.

Main roles:

  • Animation of listening sessions , collection of information and monitoring of inter-personal and community dynamics within the sites;

  • Conflict prevention and management: raising awareness among the community of the problems encountered by the inhabitants, identifying the causes of tensions, organizing mediation spaces;

  • Contribution to the compliance of the internal regulations (ROI) by the inhabitants: awareness-raising, delivery of oral or written warnings;

  • Management of crisis situations: implementation and coordination of external monitoring with partners (medical and social services, law enforcement, etc.) in situations involving specialised psychological, medical and social intervention or acts of violence;

  • Contribution to the sharing of information on conflict situations, crises and failures to comply with institutional partners (Region, Bruss'Help, etc.)  ;

  • Reporting of the situations handled, drafting and follow-up of the files transmitted to the Sanction and Conciliation Committee led by Bruss'Help.

In view of the particular context of the implementation of this project, the team's missions could indeed be required to adapt to the reality on the ground and the issues identified. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with a framework under construction and who knows how to adapt.

Profile

Types of skills and experiences relevant to this post:

  • Proven experience in conflict prevention, management and resolution, particularly in intercultural environments;

  • Mastery of the tools and processes of mediation and non-violent communication (ability to listen, posture of non-judgment, empathy, ability to enforce a framework);

  • Proven experience working with migrant and/or very precarious populations;

  • Good knowledge of the reception sector, emergency accommodation issues and the Brussels medico-social sector;

  • Proven experience in crisis management and monitoring of difficult psycho-medico-social situations in coordination with external partners;

  • Higher education related to the position (psychology, sociology, law, social work, etc.).

  • Be able to adapt and be responsive in unexpected situations;

  • Know how to prioritize the levels of importance and urgency;

  • Creativity, dynamism, proactivity;

  • Ability to be part of a work environment that is qualified as much by urgency as by experimentation with innovative and alternative approaches;

  • Sharing and adequacy with the values and philosophy of Communa;

  • Ease and appetite for teamwork, communication and task sharing

  • Great autonomy, organization and rigor in the management of missions;

  • Interest in joining a "shared governance" like that of Communa.

Why apply?

  • A 4-month fixed-term contract (possible from 02/09/24) renewed depending on the continuity of the project;

  • Full-time, 5 days/week (or possibility of 4 days/week);

  • Salary of €2340.90 gross for a full-time equivalent (FTE) (+ meal vouchers + telephone + mileage travel + teleworking allowances);

  • Main places of work: Forest (main offices of Communa) and Watermael-Boitsfort (Accommodation centre);
