Project description

The Blue Ocean Guardians is a foundation dedicated to the protection of biodiversity and the restoration of marine ecosystems. Specialized in the use of marine surface drones, robotic surface ships, amphibious drones, surface drones (USVs) and autonomous surface ships (MASS), the organization implements innovative solutions for surveillance and security missions. Its drones, capable of conducting long-range coastal patrols, help monitor marine ecosystems and ensure that protected areas remain safe from unauthorized activities, such as illegal fishing.

Operating mainly in New Caledonia, within the Grand Lagon Sud Park, Les Gardiens Bleus Océan also uses aerial drones to complement its surveillance operations. These tools offer remarkable accuracy and efficiency in preserving sensitive marine areas.

With an innovative approach and advanced technology, Les Gardiens Bleus Océan positions itself as a key player in the protection of nature, guaranteeing proactive and continuous monitoring of ecosystems.

Our objectives are:

Marine surveillance (illegal fishing)

Topographic surveys (seabed, ecosystem, cartography)

Meteorological and climatic records (sea surface air temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, rain gauges, cloud cover (cloudiness), pyranometers, aerosols and levels of air pollutants, heat and moisture fluxes between the ocean and the atmosphere,

There is a Blue Guardians Ocean Foundation and several Clear-View-Sky-Drone Associations around the world, including one in Belgium.

Why this project?

This site, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, covers 676,191 hectares. The Great Southern Lagoon Park covers 20% of the surface area of the New Caledonian complex classified by UNESCO, and represents 0.2% of New Caledonia's total maritime space. This exceptional area has been recognized for its unique landscapes, rich biodiversity, as well as the presence of iconic species such as whales, turtles, seabirds and white sharks. 🐋🦀🦈

Commitments to a sustainable world

This work will be carried out as part of the AMBIO project, "Marine Protected Areas Biodiversity, World Heritage", a research project of the Lagoons, Ecosystems and Sustainable Aquaculture Research Unit of the IFREMER Delegation of New Caledonia.
The project will be funded by the Government of New Caledonia, the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels de Nouvelle-Calédonie, the South Province, the Islands Province and IFREMER, with co-funding from the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy.

I am deeply passionate about protecting the oceans, and my commitment focuses on defending marine ecosystems, especially in areas of high ecological value such as the Great Southern Lagoon Marine Park (GLS). I actively fight against plastic pollution and advocate for the conservation of marine species. My goal is to raise public awareness of marine issues while promoting sustainable solutions to preserve these fragile and vital ecosystems.
