Project description

Ecoterian is an app designed to help users reduce the climate impact of their diet. It automatically calculates the environmental impact of recipes, making it easier for restaurants, caterers and others to choose more sustainable dishes . 🥗👩‍🍳

In addition, Ecoterian collaborates with institutions such as schools and hospitals to integrate sustainable dietary practices into the habits of patients and customers, promoting environmentally friendly choices.

🚀 Our goal? To make sustainable food more accessible and to encourage people to contribute to the preservation of the climate. We achieve this through a sound scientific approach, ensuring that our recommendations meet current health standards.

Profile

I am looking for two partners with distinct skills:

💻 Developer:

  • Web development: Proficiency in Flask and similar frameworks.

  • Data processing: Climate impact data management and integration.

  • Problem solving: Skills in debugging and performance optimization.

💼 Salesperson/Marketer:

  • Sale: Sales and negotiation skills.

  • Marketing: Experience in marketing campaigns and digital strategy.

  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Commitments to a sustainable world

  • Impact Score and Comparison: We provide clear and scientific scores to assess the environmental impact of recipes. These scores compare the impact of a dish to that of an average Belgian meal, with coloured bars indicating whether the impact is lower, similar or higher than average.

  • Detailed environmental measures: We conduct in-depth ingredient lifecycle analyses by looking at 15 environmental criteria, such as carbon footprint, land use, water consumption, and nitrogen emissions.

  • Promoting healthy and ecological cooking: Our platform helps restaurants highlight the eco-friendly and nutritious aspect of each dish. The information provided inspires customers to make more sustainable and healthy choices. In addition, our tools allow restaurants to improve the nutrition and environmental impact of their dishes.

About the Founder

Lise Vermeersch

Cofounder

A strong promoter of sustainable and healthy food, I hold a master's degree in engineering, with a specialization in materials science and chemistry. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Quantum Chemistry, focusing on sustainability and the circular economy. At the same time, I obtained certifications in food and nutrition to support my project. I also had the opportunity to hold positions of high responsibility in student organizations, where I developed skills in structure management and team management.

In November 2021, I took a major step forward by launching my start-up, Ecoterian, focused on sustainable food solutions. Recently, I also joined the VUB Board of Directors as Vice-President, where I continue to promote sustainability and positive change. 🌱
