Since 1998, Smart has been a nugget in the employment landscape: a shared cooperative where more than 40,000 members pool their resources to secure their activity... while keeping their freedom of enterprise. 🎯

Isn't it innovative to carry out one's profession within the same company whose ownership is shared, as well as governance, legal personality and general tools and services? 🤩 Social protection, legal assistance, invoicing, accounting, training, personalized support, access to a network of 8,700 m² of shared spaces... Everything is designed so that members can concentrate on their job, without the administrative stress. These are valuable resources for a whole collective, made up of thousands of people active in a wide variety of sectors. In an ultra-collaborative atmosphere, Smart makes it possible to combine social protection linked to employment with an autonomous entrepreneurial dynamic ! 👌

Smart is a hybrid, inspiring, resolutely committed model: no hunt for profits, but a real cooperative dynamic where each member is an actor in the project. Their network extends to 9 cities in Belgium, with a head office opened in the Saint-Gilles district, where several associations rent premises and where collective workspaces are accessible, as well as their sublime garden (labeled Natagora). 🌾

A taste of the team

At Smart lives a joyful ecosystem with artists, graphic designers, trainers, consultants, cooks, developers... In short, a crazy diversity of professions, backgrounds and talents! And to support all these people, a caring and passionate support team, spread over 9 branches across Belgium.

If we had to sum up the corporate culture, in 3 words? Ultra participatory, cooperative and festive ! The highlight of the celebration is their General Assembly in June, an event that brings together all the members... A swarm of ideas, recognition and victories to celebrate! 🥳 Not to mention the green days to take a breather and reconnect, as well as the annual staff party with the support team! So many moments that bring people together and give a smile, a real boost to everyday life !

In terms of values, Smart focuses on solidarity, autonomy and transparency. Their operation is based on internal democracy, an ambitious Diversity plan and a real attention to the well-being of members. Here, we share struggles, ideas, solutions and victories! 🎉

Our commitments to a sustainable world

Smart offers social, fiscal and legal protection to thousands of workers who work independently. 🧡 In 2023, more than 20,000 people have become employees through the cooperative, accumulating more than 4.5 million hours worked!

Smart is committed to making their spaces as impactless as possible. To do this, they can count on their sublime garden labelled Natagora 🌾, freshly installed photovoltaic panels on all their flat roofs, the promotion of soft mobility and zero company cars ! 💪

The cooperative is actively advocating in Belgium and Europe to have the shared business model recognised. ✊ This action is intensified around the elections and in international networks (CECOP, ICETT).

Through SmartLabs, Smart supports groups of members who are experimenting with concrete solutions around their professions, cooperative operation or the improvement of working conditions.

The cooperative participates in innovative projects such as Territoire Zéro Chômeur de Longue Durée in Gembloux, opening up new avenues for work accessible to all. 🤗

Foster a fulfilling and inclusive work environment ? Resolutely, thanks to their network of 8,700 m² of shared spaces in Belgium, the deployment of the Diversity plan to fight against discrimination and finally, their participatory operation (e.g. ethics committee, Smart in Progress) 🌈
