The Centre for Human Genetics (CGH) is a leading player in Belgium in genetic diagnosis and counselling. It brings together both a clinical service dedicated to consultations and accredited laboratories in cytogenetics and molecular genetics. Recognised by the FPS Public Health, this structure collaborates with all the departments of the Saint-Luc University Clinics, as well as with national and international partners. 🌍

As a genetic counsellor, you will play a central role in the prevention and diagnosis of genetic diseases – from medically assisted reproduction (ART) to predictive screening – in close collaboration with the medical geneticists and all the medical teams.

The main area of practice covers genetic counseling in oncogenetics.

🩺 Your daily life will look like this:

  • You support patients in understanding genetic issues, particularly in oncogenetics.

  • You assess their genetic risk in a rigorous and individualized way.

  • You convey clear information, adapted to their needs and level of understanding.

  • You help them make informed decisions, integrating their personal, family and cultural history.

  • You direct patients to the most relevant resources according to their needs.

  • You ensure complete traceability of your interventions via the EPIC Systems software.

  • You use clinical and biological data for personalized genetic counseling.

Profile

📚 Qualifications and experience required

  • Master's degree in genetic counselling (recognised by the national system of origin or the European Board of Medical Genetics) or biological sciences

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in medical genetics, ideally in a multidisciplinary setting

🚀 Essential Skills

  • Ease in working in a multidisciplinary team and in popularizing science

  • Autonomy, rigor, sense of organization, dynamism and proactivity

Additional assets

  • Knowledge of English and/or Dutch

  • Active listening training or experience

  • Sense of professional ethics and ability to respect the boundaries of one's practice

  • Willingness to contribute to the evolution of the department and to continuous training
